East Coast
Saturday on the East Coast should have some waves that are coming in from the north which will work at the north end of the beach in Wicklow with the winds blowing cross shore from the north north westerly winds that will bring colder conditions with the better conditions earlier in the morning when the swell is at its largest but this will still only bring 2ft conditions with possibly better on sets. Sunday sees that swell drop back a little to a poorer north swell with a much weaker 6 second period which will only make for 1ft waves with cold northerly winds turning offshore later in the day but not good enough as the waves will be too small with Monday only seeing small to flat conditions.
South Coast
Tramore looks to have clean conditions for Friday evening when it should be 2-3ft before the swell drops back to become small to flat for Saturday with a small wind swell pulse coming through on Sunday afternoon until dark when there is another chance at some 2ft conditions but with cross shore winds from the west north westerly. Monday turns to 1ft waves with cross shore winds dropping back to breezes by evening.
South West
Conditions around Garretstown are showing 1-2ft for Saturday with bigger for Sunday but this is only a 6 second period so expect 2-3ft weaker waves with onshore conditions with a little better for Monday in terms of swell but the winds are still onshore making for messy conditions. Inch Beach in Kerry will see the primary swell coming from the north which always struggles to get in so while the charts are showing 3-4ft, this will be more likely 1ft with cold northerly winds turning westerly onshore into Sunday. The swell is still from the north Sunday and it’s a small period swell meaning that it won’t bend well to get into Inch so expect 1-2ft at best weak blown onshore waves with Monday still bringing northerly waves but this comes up to 11 seconds meaning that it could bring 2-3ft conditions and lighter onshore winds but still messy from the previous days onshore winds.
West Coast
Lahinch is showing good waves but this is unlikely given the north in the swell meaning that it will probably only be small to flat 1ft at best conditions on Saturday with north westerly winds making for cold cross shore bumps on the small waves. Sunday sees this continue with a slight touch more west on the direction making for 2-3ft conditions but by Sunday the winds have turning westerly making for onshore messy conditions, good for lessons or those keen for some white water waves. Monday afternoon looks to see the winds drop back a bit but the winds that have been around for the previous days will see bumpy faces on the waves with 2-3ft waves at best. Tides are high at 8am Saturday, 7.30am Sunday (clocks change!) and 8am Monday so leave at least 2 hours after high or when it has dropped off the rocks before entering the water.
North West
Strandhill will see plenty of swell getting into the bay from the north west swell direction but the winds are also north westerly making for nowhere along that coast for shelter meaning messy onshore conditions Saturday that then turn westerly Sunday meaning the 3-4ft conditions will still be onshore and messy and on into Monday when the north westerly direction winds return with 5-6ft blown over conditions. For those keen, it would be Streedagh but this will be onshore all weekend and if you are that keen, I would just go to Rossnowlagh where it will be cross shore but with the shape of the bay, it holds onshore a little better. Tullan will not be an option for the weekend with the swells and wind directions but Rossnowlagh will be the only safe onshore option.
North Coast
Unfortunately the north winds that are blighting most spots around the country are also going to ruin things in Portrush for the weekend with Saturday seeing 6-7ft conditions on the charts but these will probably show as 3-4ft blown onshore with the winds set to hit 35mph onshore. Sunday sees the winds swing westerly making West Strand a mess with cross shore conditions for East Strand and Whiterocks making it messy 2-3ft weak wind swell conditions before Monday returns to northerly winds leaving no shelter for any spots. For those who are super keen there may be a little shelter from the northerly winds at the north end of West Strand at Babushka where the pier could offer a small window of shelter but this is limited and swell may not make it around but exercise care as there could be rips where the water needs to exit the beach.
