Surf Report for the weekend of the 27th and 28th of September

East Coast

Saturday on the east coast is showing to have some 1-2ft conditions with moderate southerly winds. Until morning when the winds will then start to back off and turn offshore. The swell will only be large enough for waves first thing in the morning and then it will only be really enough for foamies or lessons. Sunday sees the conditions drop back to small to flat with light winds.

South Coast

It is looking onshore first thing on Saturday morning but this winds stops blowing by 9am and then turns cross offshore as the strength in the wind drops right back. This means 2ft offshore conditions first thing dropping back to 1-2ft for the rest of the day. Sunday won’t exceed the 1-2ft range with more 1 than 2ft conditions with very light breezes.

South West

The winds on the south west look to turn cross offshore earlier which should see some nice 3-4ft conditions around Garretstown with a nice punchy 10 second period meaning good short board conditions with light variable direction winds but less than 10mph so nothing too troublesome for the waves. Sunday drops back to 2-3ft with a 9 second period so getting more into the bigger boards territory but still surfable with very light breezes. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing light to moderate onshore conditions for Saturday with the winds blowing directly onto the beach so no opportunity for shelter with the waves in the 4-5ft range with bigger on sets but biggest in the morning. Sunday sees the winds drop back a little to 10-15mph onshore so still enough or a bump on the wave with 3-4ft waves.

West Coast

Lahinch shows light onshore conditions for first thing Saturday morning but not too strong with 3-4ft conditions. The winds will be a little gusty throughout the day so it won’t be perfect surfing conditions but still good for practice with a really good push to the waves in the afternoon with a 12-13 second period with winds running between 10-15mph onshore. Sunday has the winds drop right back to 5-10mph onshore with the waves looking more like 2-3ft with the possibility of bigger on sets. Tides are high at 9am Saturday closer to 10 Sunday and with 3.8m tides you need to leave up to 2 hours either side for safe access and exit.

North West

Strandhill is showing light onshore winds for the day but these never look to get above the 10mph limit for strength. Conditions should have nice 4-5ft waves all day with a nice punchy 13 second period meaning that some of the sets could get up to 6ft. Sunday drops back to 2-3ft with even lighter onshore winds. In the Bundoran area it is showing some good Tullan Strand waves with 4-5ft conditions along the beach so no with light to moderate onshore conditions but still some good waves coming through. Rossnowlagh should have good 3ft waves for the day with the winds having less effect on the waves there. Sunday in Bundoran looks similar but with a smaller wave in the 2-3ft range with light onshore winds for the day and probably 1-2ft for Rossnowlagh.

North Coast

East Strnad in the Portrush will offer a little shelter from the west wind that is forecast for Saturday but it is light enough but the winds from the night before will mean that the wave may have a little bump to it but it should still be plenty surfable with 2-3ft conditions and less than 10mph winds. Sunday shows the winds turning southerly making for better offshore conditions with East Strand and Whiterocks having offshore conditions with 2ft waves for East and possibly bigger on sets at Whiterocks with the greater exposure to the northwest.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 20th and 21st of September

East Coast

Conditions around Wicklow look to be flat all day Saturday with the first sign of a wave coming on Sunday morning with a northerly swell which should bring waves to the north end of the beach but the winds are also moderate to strong from the north with very little shelter but can still offer good conditions. Both period and size are best early in the morning.

South Coast

Tramore is looking to have nice waves on Friday evening and into the most of the day on Saturday when the conditions then look to drop back. Friday evening could offer 3ft plus conditions with Saturday showing 2-3ft depending on tides and location with Sunday dropping back to small to flat. Winds are northerly offshore all day Saturday and light enough.

South West

Garretstown will have nice conditions on Friday evening with 4-5ft conditions with very light breezes with this continuing into Saturday with 3ft plus first thing dropping back to 2ft plus by mid morning but always with light offshore breezes before Sunday drops right off. Inch Beach in Kerry looks to have 3-4ft conditions with winds moderate from the north making for bumpy conditions and the strength of the wind will be gusty at times. Sunday sees the winds stay northerly making for cross shore bumpy conditions with fairly flat waves for the beach.

West Coast

Nice conditions are on offer for Lahinch on Saturday morning with the waves in the 2-3ft range with a small 9 second period and light winds from the south but these are less than 10mph so will have very little effect on the waves. by Saturday afternoon the winds have picked up and this will bring messy conditions so get on it early. Tides are not high until 5pm so the winds should allow you to surf for most of the day until 3pm when the tide and the winds get too high. Sunday sees those northerly winds continue from Saturday evening and this will make for messy cross shore conditions for Lahinch with the main swell on offer being a northerly wind swell.

North West

Strandhill is looking cross onshore all day Saturday with light winds but stronger gusts making for small 2-3ft conditions in the morning with a the swell building in the afternoon but this coincides with the winds picking up and turning northerly making for cold messy conditions gusting to moderate to strong by evening. Sunday sees a northerly swell with northerly winds making for messy cross shore conditions and not really offering shelter anywhere. In the Bundoran area it is looking like 2ft conditions in the morning with light winds first thing but this very quickly turns to northerly winds picking up in strength throughout the day and making for messy conditions at all spots. Sunday sees the northerly conditions continue with messy waves but it drops back to 1-2ft.

North Coast

Saturday in Portrush is looking like it will be a max of 1-2ft with light offshore winds in the morning before the winds pick up and then Sunday sees the winds go moderate to strong onshore for the whole day making for even messier conditions.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 12th of September

East Coast

Saturday is looking like the waves are going to be small in Wicklow with only 1ft conditions leaving very little for improvers. Sunday looks to jump and bring waves but not until the afternoon wen the swell kicks in so don’t go down to Wicklow too early as the afternoon will have the better conditions with the winds also turning more westerly making for cross offshore conditions. Winds are moderate to strong from the south west. The swell is still only 6-7 seconds meaning 2-3ft conditions at best.

South Coast

The south westerly winds on both Saturday and Sunday will make for messy onshore conditions for Tramore all weekend with no shelter to be had. Waves should be 2ft blown over Saturday and 3-4ft blown over Sunday.

South West

Garretstown is also looking onshore all weekend making for messy waves on both days with Sunday being a write off as the swells are larger and stronger onshore. Saturday should have 2-3ft messy blown onshore waves with Sunday showing 3-4ft blown onshore but the winds are much stronger. Inch Beach in Kerry is a mess both Saturday and Sunday and will only offer waves in the shallows for lessons otherwise it will be a no go.

West Coast

Lahinch is moderate to strong onshore Saturday with waves showing 8ft plus on the forecast but this will be much smaller in reality in that the winds will blow over any larger waves and reduce down the size so it could look like 3-4ft onshore but messy and not really worth the effort. Sunday shows a break in the morning where it looks offshore but this probably won’t happen as the winds are more likely to stay onshore and remain messy through into Sunday with winds hitting up to 40mph with waves on Sunday hitting 2-3ft blown onshore but growing bigger throughout the day so not really a day for surfing. Tides are high at 10am Saturday and closer to 11 Sunday so leave 2 hours either side before thinking of going near the water.

North West

Strandhill is onshore today (Friday) and looks to turn southerly in the morning but very quickly turn onshore again meaning 4-5ft blown onshore waves making for messy conditions. Sunday looks to turn offshore but the winds are moderate to strong offshore with 2-3ft waves but care should be exercised as the winds look to be gusting to up to 50mph making it even hard to walk with your board. In the Bundoran area Saturday looks onshore for the day with the winds up to 25mph onshore all day making for messy conditions with waves in the 2-3ft range for both Tullan and Rossnowlagh with Sunday bringing offshore conditions but nearly too strong offshore for Tullan making for cross offshore conditions blowing up the beach from the cliff with the waves in the 2-3ft range with Rossnowlagh offering 2ft conditions blowing moderate offshore up to 40mph.

North Coast

Portrush is showing 2-3ft conditions for East Strand and Whiterocks with the possibility of bigger sets with the good 11 second period and winds are offshore all day until the mid afternoon when it turns onshore so the advise would be to get on it early. Sunday looks offshore again but with the onshore over night I would expect the waves to have a messy bump on them with the winds looking to build in strength offshore so much that it actually looks to turn to an offshore wind swell making the incoming swell a challenge to catch with winds gusting up to 50mph making it hard to control boards in the water or on land. The swell looks to be best in the morning before the winds mess it up but Saturday early is the better shout.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 6th and 7th of September

East Coast

There were some nice waves last weekend on the east coast from a southerly wind swell that brought some 2-3ft waves with bigger on some of the tides. This weekend is looking small for Saturday with only the possibility of 1ft conditions with a wind that is showing to be cross onshore as the winds have east in them. Sunday sees a better chance for better 2-3ft waves with the swell having a little better period but the winds do look strong for Sunday morning but it could have some shelter on the higher tide.

South Coast

Conditions around Tramore are showing onshore conditions all day Saturday making for messy 2-3ft blown onshore waves with Sunday offering much bigger conditions but with the winds blowing direct onshore, it is going to be a white water mess and probably one for skipping.

South West

Garretstown is also showing onshore for Saturday and Sunday with winds blowing from the south and south east leaving no room for shelter anywhere. Sunday it’s much bigger with direct onshore conditions making it one to miss. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing strong cross offshore for Saturday with a northerly swell meaning that the conditions will be much smaller with 2-3ft conditions with strong winds making it hard to control the board. Sunday maxes out Inch so avoid.

West Coast

Lahinch is looking like there’s north in the swell which will struggle to get into the beach meaning that you are looking at 2-3ft conditions but with the winds moderate to strong cross offshore for Saturday with the high tide at 5pm meaning out of the water by 3 and with Sunday maxed out so avoid at all tides.

North west

Strandhill is showing some nice conditions for Saturday as the winds are blowing from the south east which is nicely offshore for Strandhill with a north westerly swell meaning that it’s pointing right at the beach. This should mean 3-4ft conditions with offshore winds. The winds themselves don’t seem to strong but the gusts look to pick up and grow throughout the day peaking around 5pm. Sunday then sees the swell back off with only 3ft @ 11 seconds but this with the moderate to strong offshore will probably only produce 1-2ft and be a struggle to get into with the winds so make the most of Saturday. In the Bundoran area all of the waves will be taken up by the Saltwater festival which will be holding competitions on the Peak or most likely peak 1 on Tullan Strand as it will probably be a little small for the Peak with Tullan offering a better grandstand for the judges with the shelter offered by the cliff as the winds are blowing from the south east. Rossnowlagh will probably only get to 1-2ft max.

North Coast

Portrush look like the conditions will be small at 2-3ft but the winds are direct offshore for the likes of East Strand but Whiterocks could offer better size with the exposure but the main story will be the winds. Sunday sees the primary swell switch to be an offshore wind swell meaning only 1ft at best with very strong offshore winds making it a bust.
