Surf Report for the weekend of the 26th and 27th of April

East Coast

Surf is looking small to flat with only small wind swell waves with a weak 5 second period for the weekend in Wicklow. This will only really suit beginners.

South Coast

With the southerly winds forecast for the weekend, this is going to rule out any clean conditions on the south coast with onshore 1ft conditions all weekend in Tramore.

South West

It is onshore winds for Garretstown also this weekend with only a small window where the winds drop back a bit on Saturday morning with 3ft conditions on Saturday and only 2ft for Sunday with the onshores on Sunday being that bit stronger to make it looks smaller when looking out. Inch Beach in Kerry should have cross shore conditions all day with the winds being in the 20-25mph strength with the waves hitting 5-6ft from a good southerly swell but that wind can’t be ignored and it will be cross shore and bumpy with Sunday seeing the winds pick up even further to nearly 35mph cross shore and bumpy.

West Coast

Lahinch is looking like it could have some really nice conditions on Saturday morning when the winds are less than 10mph with 4-5ft surf all day from a good 12 second period all day. The winds turn onshore in the early afternoon starting off light but picking up strength in the gusts to over 20mph at times. Sunday sees the winds start moderate cross offshore at first light but this will have a bump from the onshores the previous evening before it turns direct onshore around midday with again solid 3-4ft conditions picking up slightly later but with the winds picking up also. Tides are high at 5pm Saturday and 6pm Sunday so you have most of the day for surfing but be out 2 hours before high.

North West

The swell forecast for Strandhill has a touch of south in it which means that it will be less than forecast as the southerly doesn’t bend into the north west facing Strandhill as well as it gets into the likes of Tullan. Strandhill should see 2ft of the 3-4ft forecast with cross offshore winds lightly blowing until late afternoon when it will pick up strength all of the way into the evening. Sunday sees the winds pick up and bring a little bit of west in the SSW winds but the swell is more direct west which should see 2-3ft conditions. For the Bundoran area the waves should be in the 3ft range on Tullan Strand with the winds light and cross shore picking up in strength later in the day. On Sunday the winds are moderate 12-25mph cross shore from early morning meaning lumpy windy conditions with 2-3ft waves with a bigger peak closer to the cliff where there may be a little shelter. Rossnowlagh would be better on Saturday before the winds pick up.

North Coast

East Strand in Portrush will have a small 1-2ft wave from a 12-13 second period swell on Saturday with light offshore winds all day from the south. Sunday sees the winds pick up which will probably blow any strength in that swell leaving it small to flat on all beaches.

Surf Report for the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend

East Coast

Friday on the East Coast is looking moderate to strong onshore winds bringing 2ft blown over waves. Similar conditions remain for Saturday when the winds turn direct onshore up to 30mph with small period waves blown onshore with 2ft waves blown over. Sunday sees the winds back off a little but this also backs the wind swell off to flat and similar for Monday with 1ft conditions and onshore waves.

South Coast

Tramore is looking like the winds are going to be onshore from the south east for most of the weekend making it messy conditions with Friday showing 3-4ft waves blown over with the winds gusting up to 30mph from the south east. Saturday has 2ft waves with a 7 second period with the winds blowing 11-20mph from the east south east with a small window in the morning where it might be a little offshore. Sunday has light winds first thing but the swells have dropped off with the waves struggling to get over 1ft with a 6 second poor period and medium onshore winds with Monday starting light offshore in the 1ft range building to 2ft later in the morning with light cross shore winds from the east which looks to be the best option over the weekend.

South West

It looks like onshore conditions for Garretstown over the weekend also with 2ft weak period waves on Friday with moderate onshore winds all day with Saturday showing light offshores for most of the day with a nice 8-10mph offshore wind with 2ft waves from a 12 second period. Sunday sees it drop back slightly to 1-2ft with light onshore breezes from the south east. Monday looks to start small but very quickly build to a cracking 4ft wave with cross offshore winds from the north west. Inch Beach in Kerry is looking small to flat for Friday with a small wave coming through on Saturday thanks to the swell angle with the good period which could bring 2-3ft conditions but the winds may pose a problem as they are blowing from the north north east and gusting from 15-25mph variable throughout the day but this may be the only shout as the waves on the north side of the peninsula will all be blown onshore messy. Sunday sees the winds turn southerly and very light in the morning which could bring 1-2ft conditions for Inch with the swell dropping throughout the day and the winds picking up before Monday turns onshore up to 15mph with the waves maxing out the bay so shelter should be sought from the winds.

West Coast

Lahinch is looking small to flat for Friday as the swell is small with a northerly swell which will struggle to come through with moderate to strong offshore winds. Saturday sees the waves jump up but only to 2ft with the odd bigger set coming through on the bigger 13 second period with light offshores winds all day dropping to barely a breeze by evening. Sunday looks to continue with the 2ft waves but with an 11 second period with the winds lightest first thing in the morning but building up to 25mph by Sunday evening and blowing cross offshore from the south east but definitely best in the morning with Monday jumping significantly to 5-6ft with no winds in the morning and building to 8ft plus by lunch time so only for the experienced with the winds light offshore until lunchtime before turning light onshore by afternoon. Tides are high at the following times: Friday 9am and pm, Saturday 10am and pm, Sunday 11am and Monday at midday so allow 2 hours either side for safe entry and exit.

North West

Strandhill is looking small to flat for Friday with the swell not really kicking in until the evening time when a northerly swell which east swell coming off the back of the strong north east winds blows around. This will still only bring 1-2ft waves for Strandhill but with cross shore messy waves. Saturday sees it organise itself a little better with 2ft waves coming from a 9 second period but with good north east direction and light offshore winds. Sunday sees more south in that swell which means it will struggle to get into Strandhill so expect 1ft at best with light offshore winds all day and similar for Monday with more gusts to the winds. In the Bundoran area it is showing 1ft for Friday with moderate to strong offshore winds all day meaning weak waves that you will struggle to catch or hold your board in before Saturday comes and brings 1-2ft waves with light winds gusting to 15mph offshore. Sunday does not get much bigger with 1-2ft again all day but this time with no winds in the morning picking up later. Monday jumps to 3-4ft waves at Tullan with the winds Turing southerly a staying moderate in strength all day turning cross onshore later.

North Coast

In the Port this weekend it is showing the winds and swell blowing from the north east making for messy conditions for East and Whiterocks but no secondary swell getting into West Strand to allow for some offshore conditions. Saturday continues with east swell and wind blowing moderate to strong from the east with only a small 1ft wave at West Strand. Sunday drops to flat with southerly winds making for offshore conditions but a lack of waves with Monday delivering more of the same flat and offshore conditions.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 12th and 13th of April

East Coast

Conditions on the East Coast are looking very small for this weekend with only flat SUP conditions available with moderate southerly winds Saturday and light southerly winds Sunday.

South Coast

Tramore is looking small for the weekend with small to flat conditions that will struggle to bring much by way of waves for lessons or beginners. Winds are light onshore breezes for the weekend.

South West

Garretstown is looking like it won’t get much more than 1ft for Saturday with light onshore breezes with Sunday bringing slightly better at 2ft with light to moderate onshore winds for most of the day until later on it could push into the 2-3ft as a bigger period swell comes through. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing a swell with a good bit of north in it which could bring 2-3ft conditions with light to moderate onshore winds up to 15mph. Sunday sees this lift a little to bring 3-4ft waves but the winds pick up to have 20+mph winds blowing onshore which will make for messy conditions in Inch.

West Coast

Lahinch starts off really nicely on Saturday morning with 2-3ft conditions that are coming off the back of a bigger northern swell which always struggles to get into the bay and the winds are light breezes offshore in the morning before it turns onshore around midday and then stays onshore for the remainder of Saturday and Sunday with the waves appearing to build to 3-4ft but the onshore winds may blow the backs of the waves over making it appear smaller but it will have a good push with the 13 second solid period. Sunday has a bigger 4-5ft waves but the coming threw off the back of an over 8ft swell but with a touch of north in it. Winds are direct onshore for the day but will probably still have a wave for those keen for a wave. Tides are high at 6pm Saturday and closer to 7 Sunday which means you need to be out of the water at 4pm Saturday and closer to 5pm Sunday. The Irish Surfing Juniors Competition is on this weekend so be mindful that the best peaks will probably be reserved for the comp.

North West

Strandhill looks to start off really nicely too with light offshore winds first thing Saturday morning gradually turning onshore by the afternoon with waves in the 3-4ft in the morning building to 4-5ft later on as the winds turn onshore. Sunday in Strandhill sees a good solid swell that will push the size up in Strandhill at 6ft plus with a solid 12 second period. Winds are moderate cross onshore but could be offshore for the likes of Enniscrone which should have a 3-4ft waves but be mindful of the offshore winds. In the Bundoran area it will start small at Tullan but build quickly with light offshores first thing turning onshore by the afternoon with 2-3ft quickly becoming 3-4ft and then biggest before it goes onshore. Sunday has cross onshore for Tullan but Rossnowlagh can handle the slight onshore winds at 12-15mph with waves in the 3-4ft range. Streedagh could have a small 2ft wave with the 12 second period allowing for a small wave to get in and be cross shore.

North Coast

There is a good period showing for Saturday morning in Portrush with a good solid 17 second swell first thing dropping to 13 seconds later on with 2ft conditions for the most part but bigger sets coming through on the bigger period so might be worth waiting around for the larger sets with light offshores all day until evening. Sunday sees some really nice conditions for East Strand with cross offshore winds of 12-15mph which could clean up the faces a little with 3-4ft waves.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 5th and 6th of April

East Coast

Winds are blowing from the north east this weekend for the east coast which could bring 1-2ft weak onshore wind swell. This will be weak 6 second period waves which will really only suit kids or lessons. Sunday sees the winds back off with no waves and light variable winds less than 10pm so could be ok for some SUPing.

South Coast

Tramore is looking small to flat for the weekend with the conditions barely breaking overact with moderate cross offshore winds from the East North East. Sunday is showing 1-2ft conditions with winds blowing cross shore from the east which will make for bumpy conditions.

South West

Garretstown is looking small for Saturday as the main swell is coming from the south with the winds are blowing moderate to strong from the north east which is offshore for Garretstown but just a little too strong. Sunday has a good 11 second period swell coming through which should bring 2ft waves with the winds blowing cross offshore from the east up to 20mph. Inch Beach in Kerry is looking marginal with barely enough swell to get a wave going with 1ft at best and moderate offshore winds. Sunday in Inch has a swell with a touch of north in it which could bring 1-2ft with cross offshore winds from the south east.

West Coast

Lahinch this weekend is looking small to flat for Saturday with offshore winds all day leaving not much in the way for improvers. If you are keen then you might catch something on a longboard or Foamie with good arms. The tide is high at 11.30so 2 hours either side. Sunday sees the swell jump a little but with a touch of north in it which will drop out the increase in swell size and probably have 1-2ft conditions for most of the day with offshore winds all day. High tide is not until nearer 1 so if you can get a session in the morning before 11 then the period is 13 seconds which may have more of the 2ft waves than 1ft with a small drop after the high tide after 3pm only having 1-2ft waves.

North West

Strandhill is looking like it will also only get 1-2ft on Saturday with light to moderate offshore winds. Sunday sees a bit of a bump with the winds staying offshore and the waves in the 2-3ft range and best in the morning when the period is 13 seconds but this drops to 12 later on and the swell drops a small bit too. In the Bundoran area, it is going to be a Tullan Strand weekend with 1-2ft waves on Saturday all day with moderate offshore winds followed by 2-3ft waves for Tullan on Sunday with moderate offshore winds all day until evening.

North Coast

The primary swell for Portrush at the weekend is coming from the north east off the back of the easterly winds blowing up to 20mph. This won’t bring any waves to West Strand where the winds would be nice and offshore and will only bring cross shores to East or Whiterocks with 1-2ft waves at best. Sunday drops a little on the easterly swell as the winds back off and a small 1ft swell from the north could bring 1-2ft waves for East Strand but the winds are still going to be cross shore and a little bumpy.
