Apologies for the late report, I got locked out of the website!
East Coast
Surf on the east coast is looking like it is going to be small for most of the day on Saturday with it picking up in the evening bringing 1-2ft for most of the day but with a weak 5 second wind swell period. Sunday looks to pick up to 8 second periods which will probably kick things up a gear into 2-3ft for most of the day but the earlier you can get on it the better as the swell is really only peaking overnight and by afternoon is down to 1-2ft again. Monday sees another pulse but this time late on in the day but this will probably only hit 2ft due to the poor 6 second period so really only good for foamies or longboards. Winds are southerly all weekend.
South Coast
With the southerly winds that are blowing for the day on Saturday, it is looking like the bay will be onshore with weak winds swell for Saturday. Sunday sees a pick up in the conditions with the winds turning cross offshore for Tramore with 3-4ft conditions dropping down in the afternoon. Monday sees a return to the onshore conditions and lower periods so make the most of the conditions on the Sunday but don’t expect it to be too clean as the onshores will have brought bump to the waves from the preceding days.
South West
Garretstown is showing a similar story with onshore conditions for Saturday with the winds gusting up to nearly 40mph with 3-4ft blown over waves. Sunday starts with cross shore winds and quite a sizeable pulse of swell coming from the south west which could see conditions exceed 6-7ft with the good 14 second period. The cross shore winds could make for bumpy conditions and more favorable to rights but be mindful that big periods bring big gaps which can cause a false sense of safety and then sets could light up the bay. Monday returns to onshore conditions for the day ruining play with massive waves and messy conditions. Inch Beach in Kerry is looking like it is going to be maxed out all weekend so definitely give it a miss as the swell and periods are very large.
West Coast
Lahinch is forecast to be very big over the weekend so I would raise a concern of caution as the forecast is showing conditions on Saturday to be in excess of 6-10ft with the winds showing cross offshore for the south end of the beach. Sunday is showing even bigger at 10ft plus and Monday is showing 15ft plus so I would be suggesting to give it a miss for the weekend unless you are local and can find shelter from the large waves. Pay particular attention to the high tides which are big lows to big highs and with the large waves forecast, the tides will rush in so don’t get caught out.
North West
Conditions around Strandhill are going to be maxed out for the whole weekend so I would be looking for spots that have shelter or can kill off a lot of the swell. Spots like Aughris will probably kick in on Sunday and Monday with Streedagh only having a small wave Saturday before jumping up to have a chunky wave on Sunday that would be too scary. Sunday and Monday are probably no go’s for Streedagh but worth checking Sunday if it’s not too big at the south end. Tullan Strand will be maxed out all weekend even though the swell on Saturday is only 4.6ft, the period is moving between 13 and 14 seconds which is a significant amount of water moving around with large heaving waves, leaving only Rossnowlagh on Saturday, Sunday and Monday but I would not be trying to get out back as the waves will be large by Rossnowlagh standards and the reforms could be well over 6ft so stay on the inside and take care.
North Coast
In Portrush it is looking like the conditions should be 2-3ft with the odd bigger sets on the 14 second periods with the winds blowing moderate to strong offshore from the south. Sunday sees both the waves and the periods jump to 16 seconds meaning that the swell should be around 4-5ft and possibly much bigger on sets but the winds are turning cross onshore for East Strand. Monday sees the winds turn back offshore with 20-30mph winds from the south and waves in the 5-7ft range.
