East Coast
Conditions on the east coast are looking like a mixed bag this weekend with some moderate to strong winds coming up the east coast on Saturday that may bring some wind swell waves by Saturday afternoon with 2ft conditions from 3pm to dusk with the winds blowing the whole time so it won’t be clean but there will be some small waves. This looks to drop off by Sunday morning with Sunday looking to have 1-2ft conditions with moderate cross offshore winds for Wicklow so probably only good for foamies or lessons.
South Coast
The south winds that are bringing wind swell to the east coast are going to be the same winds that make conditions in Tramore messy with 3ft conditions blown over with the onshore winds up to 40mph. Sunday looks a little cleaner while still being onshore but nowhere near as strong. Conditions on Sunday should still be 3-4ft with the winds ranging from single digits up to 15mph but Tramore can handle a bit of onshore.
South West
The winds are going to be the killer in Garretstown on Saturday with the conditions showing 4-6ft if the winds weren’t onshore but I would expect this to be smaller caused by the onshore winds blowing the waves over from the back with potentially only 2-3ft messy conditions. Sunday looks a good bit better with 5-6ft conditions with light onshore and cross shore conditions. The waves on Inch Beach in Kerry are showing that the winds may also be the ruin of the weekend with the winds blowing from the south on both days but certainly given the conditions elsewhere I would expect the winds on Sunday to be a little lighter than forecast. Saturday is showing winds in the 25 to 40mph range with southerly swell in the 3-4ft range as the period is poor at 8 seconds. Sunday sees the swell jump up in both wave size and also period to 12 seconds. This should mean 6-8ft plus conditions with bigger on sets and with the winds blowing from the south could mean cross shore bumpy conditions. I would therefore check the spots on the north side of the peninsula for better conditions on both Saturday and Sunday but Saturday could be a little small.
West Coast
In Lahinch the west swell is showing better for the Saturday with the conditions showing 3ft conditions with bigger sets in between with the larger 15 second period. The winds are showing moderate to strong cross shore for most of the day. Tides are high on Saturday at 9.30 in the morning so leave 2 hours after before getting in. Sunday is showing some really nice swell conditions that will bring some chunky waves to the beach with 9ft @ 12 seconds which could bring 6ft plus conditions. Winds are light onshore for most of the day with the winds gusting at times up to 20mph at times. The tide is high on Sunday at 10.30 so I would leave getting into the water until 12 as it’s not the highest of tides.
North West
Saturday looks like the winds will probably have a detrimental effect on the waves as the winds are strong offshore up to 40mph at the middle of the day. The waves are forecast at 2ft but the winds may reduce this down further. Sunday on the other hand looks really nice with 4ft conditions for most of the day with the winds looking like they are swinging around a bit from light offshore in the morning to a period of onshore in the middle of the day. In the Bundoran area, it is looking like a strong offshore Tullan day Saturday but the waves being potentially held up from breaking at 1-2ft with Sunday looking really nice at 2-4ft on Tullan growing all day with light breezes for the day less than 10mph.
North Coast
Portrush is showing that the strong offshore winds on Saturday may blow things back to flat from the 1 to 2ft that’s predicted but I would say it will be more 1ft than 2. Sunday is showing a similar size but a better period so this may bring a tiny bit more punch to the 1-2ft but not much and may be more suited to West Strand on a bigger board but struggling to make 2ft.
