Surf Report for the weekend of the 12th of September

East Coast

Saturday is looking like the waves are going to be small in Wicklow with only 1ft conditions leaving very little for improvers. Sunday looks to jump and bring waves but not until the afternoon wen the swell kicks in so don’t go down to Wicklow too early as the afternoon will have the better conditions with the winds also turning more westerly making for cross offshore conditions. Winds are moderate to strong from the south west. The swell is still only 6-7 seconds meaning 2-3ft conditions at best.

South Coast

The south westerly winds on both Saturday and Sunday will make for messy onshore conditions for Tramore all weekend with no shelter to be had. Waves should be 2ft blown over Saturday and 3-4ft blown over Sunday.

South West

Garretstown is also looking onshore all weekend making for messy waves on both days with Sunday being a write off as the swells are larger and stronger onshore. Saturday should have 2-3ft messy blown onshore waves with Sunday showing 3-4ft blown onshore but the winds are much stronger. Inch Beach in Kerry is a mess both Saturday and Sunday and will only offer waves in the shallows for lessons otherwise it will be a no go.

West Coast

Lahinch is moderate to strong onshore Saturday with waves showing 8ft plus on the forecast but this will be much smaller in reality in that the winds will blow over any larger waves and reduce down the size so it could look like 3-4ft onshore but messy and not really worth the effort. Sunday shows a break in the morning where it looks offshore but this probably won’t happen as the winds are more likely to stay onshore and remain messy through into Sunday with winds hitting up to 40mph with waves on Sunday hitting 2-3ft blown onshore but growing bigger throughout the day so not really a day for surfing. Tides are high at 10am Saturday and closer to 11 Sunday so leave 2 hours either side before thinking of going near the water.

North West

Strandhill is onshore today (Friday) and looks to turn southerly in the morning but very quickly turn onshore again meaning 4-5ft blown onshore waves making for messy conditions. Sunday looks to turn offshore but the winds are moderate to strong offshore with 2-3ft waves but care should be exercised as the winds look to be gusting to up to 50mph making it even hard to walk with your board. In the Bundoran area Saturday looks onshore for the day with the winds up to 25mph onshore all day making for messy conditions with waves in the 2-3ft range for both Tullan and Rossnowlagh with Sunday bringing offshore conditions but nearly too strong offshore for Tullan making for cross offshore conditions blowing up the beach from the cliff with the waves in the 2-3ft range with Rossnowlagh offering 2ft conditions blowing moderate offshore up to 40mph.

North Coast

Portrush is showing 2-3ft conditions for East Strand and Whiterocks with the possibility of bigger sets with the good 11 second period and winds are offshore all day until the mid afternoon when it turns onshore so the advise would be to get on it early. Sunday looks offshore again but with the onshore over night I would expect the waves to have a messy bump on them with the winds looking to build in strength offshore so much that it actually looks to turn to an offshore wind swell making the incoming swell a challenge to catch with winds gusting up to 50mph making it hard to control boards in the water or on land. The swell looks to be best in the morning before the winds mess it up but Saturday early is the better shout.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 6th and 7th of September

East Coast

There were some nice waves last weekend on the east coast from a southerly wind swell that brought some 2-3ft waves with bigger on some of the tides. This weekend is looking small for Saturday with only the possibility of 1ft conditions with a wind that is showing to be cross onshore as the winds have east in them. Sunday sees a better chance for better 2-3ft waves with the swell having a little better period but the winds do look strong for Sunday morning but it could have some shelter on the higher tide.

South Coast

Conditions around Tramore are showing onshore conditions all day Saturday making for messy 2-3ft blown onshore waves with Sunday offering much bigger conditions but with the winds blowing direct onshore, it is going to be a white water mess and probably one for skipping.

South West

Garretstown is also showing onshore for Saturday and Sunday with winds blowing from the south and south east leaving no room for shelter anywhere. Sunday it’s much bigger with direct onshore conditions making it one to miss. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing strong cross offshore for Saturday with a northerly swell meaning that the conditions will be much smaller with 2-3ft conditions with strong winds making it hard to control the board. Sunday maxes out Inch so avoid.

West Coast

Lahinch is looking like there’s north in the swell which will struggle to get into the beach meaning that you are looking at 2-3ft conditions but with the winds moderate to strong cross offshore for Saturday with the high tide at 5pm meaning out of the water by 3 and with Sunday maxed out so avoid at all tides.

North west

Strandhill is showing some nice conditions for Saturday as the winds are blowing from the south east which is nicely offshore for Strandhill with a north westerly swell meaning that it’s pointing right at the beach. This should mean 3-4ft conditions with offshore winds. The winds themselves don’t seem to strong but the gusts look to pick up and grow throughout the day peaking around 5pm. Sunday then sees the swell back off with only 3ft @ 11 seconds but this with the moderate to strong offshore will probably only produce 1-2ft and be a struggle to get into with the winds so make the most of Saturday. In the Bundoran area all of the waves will be taken up by the Saltwater festival which will be holding competitions on the Peak or most likely peak 1 on Tullan Strand as it will probably be a little small for the Peak with Tullan offering a better grandstand for the judges with the shelter offered by the cliff as the winds are blowing from the south east. Rossnowlagh will probably only get to 1-2ft max.

North Coast

Portrush look like the conditions will be small at 2-3ft but the winds are direct offshore for the likes of East Strand but Whiterocks could offer better size with the exposure but the main story will be the winds. Sunday sees the primary swell switch to be an offshore wind swell meaning only 1ft at best with very strong offshore winds making it a bust.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 30th and 31st of August

East Coast

Saturday on the east coast looks to start off very small in Wicklow but this builds throughout the day with wind swell coming up the channel from moderate to strong winds coming from the south. As this wind builds the swell ahead of it will build but it should be noted that the swell period is only 6 seconds meaning that any waves will only be wind swell meaning weaker 1-2ft waves with the possibility of slightly bigger depending on tides. Sunday starts with 1-2ft and could get up to 2-3ft later on in the day with the winds looking to gust to over 44mph so care should be exercised at all times and knowing how to triangulate your position in the water will be required to make sure you are not drifting in the winds and allow time to get out and reposition.

South Coast

Tramore is looking like it is going to be moderate to strong onshore all weekend meaning that the waves will be messy with white water waves only for both days over the weekend. Saturday could be 2-3ft blown over with Sunday showing it to be maxed out and should be avoided.

South West

Garretstown looks to start with 3-4ft blown over onshore white water waves with winds up to 40mph onshore so probably best to give it a miss. Sunday should definitely be given a miss as the waves and wind are large onshore. Inch Beach in Kerry is a mess for both days with no real waves for Improvers with the strong onshore conditions.

West Coast

Lahinch looks to start off with cross offshore winds but these look to turn southerly and then turn onshore by afternoon. When the winds turn the swell jacks up and will become unsurfable. Sunday is looking large and unsurfable. With the high tide on Saturday morning it means that you would need to be out of the water by 8am so it’s not a great offering for the weekend.

North West

Saturday morning early looks to be the shout for Strandhill with the conditions being 2-3ft with bigger sets coming through by late evening. Sunday looks to have a touch of south in the swell and with the size of the swell it would normally be too big for improvers in Strandhill but the south in the swell will take a lot of the size out of it with 2-4ft conditions possible but it will only be on sets and the south in the swell will favour spots further north. Winds are south easterly on Saturday and more southerly on Sunday but quite strong so care should be exercised in all spots. In the Bundoran area it is looking like Saturday morning first thing will be the only shout for clean waves before the winds pick up and begin gusting strongly with 2-3ft conditions with a small touch of north in the swell so it would be a Tullan wave all day but care should be exercised in the winds. Sunday looks to have the winds pick up quite strongly making for messy conditions with cross shore winds for all spots with a jump in the swell meaning that really only Rossnowlagh being the only safe surfing spot for improvers but don’t expect any decent conditions. With 3-4ft messy conditions.

North Coast

There are small waves on the forecast for Saturday and Sunday for the likes of East Strand but the problem is the winds and the strength of the winds that could blow any waves offshore. I think it will really only be 1ft with the strength of the winds that are forecast. Don’t feel too bad as there has been some class conditions around Portrush over the past week with Storm Erin delivering the goods for the locals.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of August

East Coast

The east coast is looking very flat for the weekend with no incoming swell on either day so call into Brittas Bay Surf School for SUP Tours and lessons.

South Coast

Tramore is not looking like it is going to have anything above 1ft for either Saturday or Sunday with light onshore winds for both days.

South West

Garretstown is looking like it will only have 1ft with possibly a tiny bit bigger on sets for Saturday with an 8 second period swell with light onshore winds from the south. Sunday looks to have a little better with some of the sets hitting 2ft but the winds are more cross onshore and a little stronger so the wave could have a little bit more of a bump on the face. Inch Beach in Kerry is looking small in the 1-2ft with occasional bigger sets but not much bigger but the winds look to be from the south and hitting up to 15mph at times. Sunday sees more waves in the 2-3ft range but with the winds showing to be a little stronger from the south but this could be lighter on the day with the land drag as the winds are coming from the south south east.

West Coast

Lahinch had some nice 2ft waves today (Friday) and looks to continue into Saturday with 2ft waves forecast with light winds from the south which won’t mess with the wave too much but could bring a little bump to the face. Waves have a smaller 8 second period so will favour bigger boards or foamies. Sunday looks to have a little better conditions with 2-3ft waves with a slightly bigger 9 second period so slightly better and a little bit more push to the wave with the winds more cross offshore with that south south east direction but it looks to turn onshore later in the day. Tides are high at 6am and pm Saturday and 6.30am and closer to 7pm Sunday so allow 2 hours either side for safe access and exit.

North West

Saturday in Strandhill sees the warriors run so I would avoid as the roads will be closed from mid morning to late in the day to facilitate the race running up through the village. But you are not missing much as the swell is coming from the south west which will miss any of the north facing spots and really only bring waves to the likes of Tullan Strand in Bundoran which likes the south west but its not big so will still only be 1-2ft Saturday and similar for Sunday with light breezes Saturday and light to moderate breezes Sunday from the south.

North Coast

Portrush is looking flat for both days of the weekend with the swell barely breaking 6 inches with light offshores Saturday and moderate offshore winds Sunday.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 16th and 17th of August

East Coast

Conditions on the east coast are looking small to flat for the weekend with no incoming swell to bring any waves. Winds are very light all weekend with only breezes on both days.

South Coast

Tramore is looking flat on Saturday with a small wave pulse and a big period but not enough to bring larger waves than 0-1ft. Sunday sees a small weak wind swell coming through that will bring 2ft waves with a very small period and onshore winds all day but lightest in the morning.

South West

Garretstown is showing 1ft waves for Saturday with offshore winds but these winds have a little push behind them which could blow conditions flat. Sunday sees the winds blow from the south east bringing an onshore wind swell with 3ft conditions but blown over by the onshore winds making for messy white water conditions with possibly the odd nugget in between. Inch Beach in Kerry is looking like 0-1ft conditions but with moderate offshore winds that may push that swell out and not let it land. Sunday at Inch will probably struggle to get a wave at all with small conditions and offshore winds.

West Coast

Lahinch is seeing some nice small clean conditions today (Friday) but this looks to drop back to flat conditions for both Saturday and Sunday offering nothing for improvers. There might be a wave on Saturday for a lesson first thing in the morning. Tides are high at 11am Saturday and 12:30 Sunday but they’re small enough high tides so 1.5 hours out of the water either side.

North West

Strandhill is looking small to flat for the whole weekend so very little chance of surf there or at any of the nearby spots. Bundoran had some lovely waves Friday (just out of the water) that were nice and clean Friday morning before it went onshore after midday. It looks like it won’t get much above 1ft for Saturday or Sunday with offshore winds on both days so really only good for a lesson.

North Coast

Portrush is looking like it won’t get much above 1ft for the weekend with light onshore breezes Saturday and light offshore breezes on Sunday but probably only good for lessons or SUPs

Surf Report for the weekend of the 9th and 10th of August

East Coast

There are no waves forecast for the east coast for the weekend with no swell coming up the channel. Winds are strong offshore Saturday and light southerlies on Sunday.

South Coast

Saturday in Tramore is showing 2ft wind swell conditions with winds blowing cross shore for the day until the evening when it drops back a little and turns offshore before dark but the waves will still be weak and bumpy from the winds all day. Sunday sees the winds drop back to breezes but as there was only wind swell the day before there are no waves on Sunday other than some small weak waves up to 1ft.

South West

Winds are looking to be the ruin of the conditions in Garretstown with the winds blowing direct onshore all day Saturday with wind swell weak waves in the 1-2ft range blown over with Sunday dropping right back on the winds but still only 1-2ft conditions. Inch Beach in Kerry is looking like the winds are going to mess up Saturday with the wind direction straight onshore blowing up to 25mph on the gusts making for 5-6ft waves blown over with bigger messy waves on sets. Sunday sees the winds turn southerly with the waves in the 3-4ft range but possibly smaller as there is a touch of north in the swell and it is only a 10 second period. Winds will be cross shore and could be lighter than the forecast for Inch due to land drag. There are good grounds for checking some of the spots on the north side of the peninsula on Sunday for some decent conditions.

West Coast

Saturday looks like the winds are moderate to strong onshore for the day with waves in the 5-6ft range with lots of water moving around with the 12 second period bringing bigger conditions. Sunday sees the swell drop back to much better conditions, especially in the morning when the winds are cross offshore in the morning and much lighter. These winds look to pick up in the gusts in the afternoon and turn eventually to be onshore again by 6pm so get on it early and get a good surf in before the winds turn. It’s not going to be perfect offshore due to the previous days onshore conditions but for weekend fun it could be ok. Tides are high at 6am and pm Saturday and 6.30am and pm Sunday but the tides are ranging from 4.5m down to 0.7m which is a big change which means that the tides will drop out fast and come in very fast so leave at least 2 hours either side for safe access and exit.

North West

Strandhill is looking like the westerly winds on Saturday are going to make for messy onshore conditions for the day with the waves in the 6ft region making it a no go zone but there should be waves in the likes of Streedagh but the winds will still be onshore. Aughris might have a little shelter in at the left but this tends to work better when the winds have a touch more south in them. Sunday is a much better should with the waves in Strandhill looking like 4-5ft with winds blowing offshore but gusting at times so watch your position in the water to avoid drifting too much. This swell is dropping all day but the winds are picking up all day so try and pick the best moment to suit your skills. In the Bundoran area Tullan will be maxed out Saturday and the onshore winds would leave it like a storm wash anyway. Sunday should see 3-4ft conditions on Tullan with the winds lightest in the morning and building in strength all day so get on it early as the gusting winds could make for bumpier conditions.

North Coast

The winds are the killer for Portrush on Saturday as there is a nice 12 second period swell coming in but the winds are blowing up to 40mph from the west leaving very little option for shelter with waves in the 5-6ft range. Sunday sees much better conditions with 2-3ft waves on East Strand with the winds blowing offshore all day. East Strand and Whiterocks should both have waves with Whiterocks offering a little bigger size.

Surf Report for the August Bank Holiday Weekend

East Coast

Both Saturday and Sunday look to have poor conditions for Wicklow but Monday could bring some 2ft conditions to Wicklow with moderate to strong southerly winds but there should still be some shelter available.

South Coast

Conditions in Tramore are looking small to flat for Saturday with 1ft at best for Sunday with both days having light onshore winds. Monday brings a weak 7 second period swell of up to 2-3ft but with moderate cross shore winds from the west making for bumpy conditions.

South West

It’s another case of small to flat for Saturday in Garretstown with 1ft for Sunday with light offshore winds that are barely breezes. Monday sees the swell jump up to 3-4ft with the winds blowing cross shore from the West north west so expect a bit of bump to the waves. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing 1-2ft for early Saturday building a small bit in the afternoon to probably a more consistent 2ft. The winds are south westerly meaning cross onshore but mostly onshore but probably still ok for beginners or lessons. Sunday sees the winds turn nearly direct onshore around the 10mph range with 2-3ft conditions on sets. There is a touch of north in the swell which will drop some of the size but the period is building all day. Monday morning looks to start off very windy with winds blowing around from 25-20mph and this is coming from a passing storm front way out to sea but this will make for messy 5-6ft conditions on sets but the winds will make them messy unsurfable waves.

West Coast

Lahinch is showing some mixed periods on Saturday which is going to make for 1ft conditions in the morning but this will build with the period and swell building but behind this will also be direct onshore winds to mess up the 2ft waves in the afternoon. Sunday sees a small north in the swell which if it wasn’t there would see 3ft conditions and this could appear by evening but the winds are onshore all day so don’t expect lined up clean conditions. Monday brings a new mess with winds blowing 25-30mph onshore with waves in the 2-4ft blown over and bigger on sets. I’d give it a miss unless you were keen but you shouldn’t be trying to get out back as it will be messy. This strong wind is the result of the passing Storm Floris.

North West

Conditions around Strandhill on Saturday are looking half decent with 2ft conditions and light offshore winds for the morning with the gusts slightly picking up in the afternoon but still southerly conditions. Sunday sees the winds turn onshore which will make for messy conditions with waves in the 3ft range before Monday maxes out the place with winds coming from the north west up to 40mph which will ruin any chance of surf. Aughris may have a 2ft wave if you are in the area and keen but that touch of north in the wind will make it a little bumpy. In the Bundoran area it is a similar story with light winds Saturday making for the best chance of clean waves over the weekend with light southerly winds. Sunday turns onshore up to 15mph with 2-3ft conditions blown over with Monday turning worse with winds up to 40mph and waves over 6ft but not in a good way.

North Coast

In the Portrush area it is looking like a small Saturday with 1-2ft conditions from a small 8 second period with light offshore winds. This will probably be more of the 1ft than 2ft. Sunday sees the winds turn onshore and stay onshore on through Monday with Monday being twice the strength of Sunday so messy conditions for Sunday and Monday.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 26th and 27th of July

East Coast

Conditions on the east coast are looking small to flat for the weekend with swell barely breaking enough to bring 6” but with light winds, there should be some good SUP conditions for those keen to get in the water.

South Coast

Tramore also won’t get above 1ft for the weekend with very little swell around and light offshore winds for the weekend that are barely breezes.

South West

Saturday looks smaller at 1ft in Garretstown with only 1-2ft forecast but this could be a consistent 2ft later in the day when the period hits 12 seconds. The winds are light cross onshore but they are below 10mph so shouldn’t affect the wave too much. Sunday sees similar 1-2ft conditions but the winds drop right back to barely breezes all day so good for lessons. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing some sizeable conditions with 5-6ft at a good 12 seconds period but this is backed by onshore winds from the west meaning messy conditions. Sunday sees 3-4ft but the winds do appear to drop off a little but still onshore so it won’t be perfection but there will be some waves for those keen.

West Coast

It is looking onshore for Lahinch for the weekend with Saturday showing 3-4ft blown onshore with winds in the 15mph range. Sunday will have lighter winds but still onshore at just over 10mph so not too bad but still bumpy. Waves are coming from the north so expect 2-3ft instead of the 5-7ft forecast. Tides are high at 7am and pm Saturday and at 7.30am and closer to 8pm Sunday so allow at least two hours either side for safe entry and exit.

North West

Strandhill is seeing light winds Saturday morning that start offshore but quickly turn onshore and pick up to moderate onshore up to 15mph on the gusts. Waves should be in the 3-4ft but the winds will bring a bump to the waves. Sunday starts off with light cross shore winds but again soon turns onshore with the winds picking up to nearly 20mph onshore from the gusts. In the Bundoran area the winds are onshore for the weekend with Saturday showing that spots like Tullan will be messy onshore. Rossnowlagh will still be onshore but can handle the onshore winds a little better. Tullan looks like it could be 2-3ft blown over with some bigger sets from the 12/13 second period with Sunday showing similar wind and swell conditions. This means that Rossnowlagh could have 2ft conditions for the weekend with onshore winds.

North Coast

Portrush is showing some swell with 2ft conditions for Saturday with offshore winds first thing on East Strand before very quickly turning onshore by mid morning. This could pick up to 2-3ft later on. Sunday looks to grow a little to be 3ft but the winds are direct onshore for West Strand and cross shore for East Strand so the closer to Arcadia, the better the shelter but expect it to be bumpy from the 15-25mph winds.

Surf Improvers

Surf Report for the weekend of the 19th and 20th of July

East Coast

The east coast is looking decidedly small to flat for the weekend with no swell coming in with waves not breaking greater than 1ft for both Saturday and Sunday with moderate southerly winds all weekend.

South Coast

Conditions in Tramore are looking small for the weekend with a small pulse of swell at only 8 seconds but the swell size is not enough to get the pulses racing at only 1.5ft meaning waves in the 1ft range for Saturday. Sunday sees a similar affair but coming from a different angle and only 6 second period with 1-2ft weak waves and light offshore winds all day.

South West

Small conditions again for Garretstown with 1-2ft waves Saturday with a very weak 7 second period meaning only good for foamies. Sunday sees a westerly pulse arrive with 3-4ft conditions and direct offshore winds for Garretstown meaning some decent waves for those who are keen. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing offshore conditions for Saturday for most of the day until the afternoon when it turns light onshore with waves in the 2ft range meaning ok waves. Sunday sees the winds pick up a bit but they’re cross offshore from the north north east turning more north making it cross shore bumpy for most of the day with waves in the 3ft range.

West Coast

Lahinch sees cross shore winds all day Saturday from the south east meaning offshore for the south end of the beach but the strength picks up from 5mph in the morning to gusting to 20mph by the evening so best to get on it early with the high tide at 1pm but it’s a small low tide so 1.5 hours out of the water but it’s gusty in the afternoon. Sunday sees offshore winds for most of the day around the 20mph mark with some stronger gusts but these could be slowed by land drag but by 3pm the winds are full north making things messy with 2-3ft waves expected and high tide around 2pm but messy thereafter so may not be worth getting back in after 2 hours out of the water for the high tide.

North West

Strandhill isn’t getting the swell off the south west so it’s looking smaller at 1ft for Saturday with a small 7 second period and light offshore breezes. Sunday sees a little bump in the pulse to bring 2ft waves with a good 11 second period which should bring a little push to the wave with light breezes all day turning northerly by lunch. In the Bundoran area, Saturday is small with the weak 7 second period swell so only really 1ft conditions or just over and light offshore winds. Sunday also sees the little increase in Tullan but not until the afternoon when it could get up to 2ft with light breezes.

North Coast

Portrush doesn’t look to get above 1ft for the weekend with offshore conditions for West Strand before Sunday brings similar but with the winds only blowing light breezes meaning probably better for golf but not for surfing with no swell.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 12th and 13th of July

East Coast

With the good weather, things are looking small to flat for the weekend with light breezes both days so perfect for SUP tours and lessons with the guys in Brittas Bay Surf School.

South Coast

Tramore will also be small to flat for the weekend with light breezes but not enough waves for any surf. Check in with Tramore Surf N Sup for tours and SUP lessons.

South West

Garretstown could hit 1ft in the afternoon on Saturday with cross offshore light winds with Sunday potentially could get up to between 1-2ft in the afternoon with light offshore winds but on both days, these will only be 8 or 9 second periods so weak enough but possibly enough for some foamie fun. Inch Beach is looking marginal on whether enough of the swell will get in to create waves but expect small conditions on Saturday. Sunday shows a little more swell which could bring 1-2ft conditions for foamies or lessons but it looks to be best in the morning when it could get up to 2ft+ but dropping all day.

West Coast

Conditions in Lahinch are looking like 1-2ft for Saturday coming off the back of a weak 8 second period with cross offshore winds that should make for good lessons conditions or foamie fun. Sunday sees a little jump in the swell Sunday morning which could bring more solid 2ft conditions but the tide is high first thing so this might scupper the chances of getting on it early but Spanish Point could have 2ft on the early high tide. Once the tide drops in Lahinch on Sunday morning it should still have 1-2ft conditions with cross offshore winds all day. Tides are high before 7am and pm on Saturday and around 7.30am and pm on Sunday and as these are larger high tides, allow 2 hours either side for safe access and exit.

North West

Strandhill looks like it could start off with a 1-2ft wave on Saturday morning but this swell angle then changes to have more south in the swell which will drop the wave to be small to flat for the rest of the day. Sunday will struggle to get above 1ft for the day with offshore winds both days. In the Bundoran area it is going to be a Tullan Strand weekend with 1-2ft being the max for Saturday with cross offshore winds Sunday will struggle to get above 1ft until late afternoon when the swell picks up a little but winds are more offshore all day making for clean conditions.

North Coast

There will be a lack of waves on the north coast this weekend with conditions not getting above 1ft for the weekend with cross offshore winds all weekend that will be fairly light.
