Surf Report for the weekend of the 26th and 27th of September

It is looking like there could be some small waves on the East Coast on Sunday but these are really only small. The swell starts building on Saturday evening with 1ft to then grow to 1-2ft by Sunday lunchtime and then drop back again by evening. Winds are moderate to strong southerly which is what is bringing the waves but this is only 6 seconds.

South Coast

With the strong southerly winds that are bringing waves to the east coast, the south coast is going to be onshore and messy with waves at 1ft Saturday and 2ft Sunday but blown onshore messy.

South West

Garretstown looked to have a period of nice waves on Friday but this comes to an end as the winds turn onshore and remain onshore until early Sunday. This means that Saturday with be 2ft blown over with messy conditions but Sunday could actually bring 3ft conditions with light offshore winds after morning when the winds drop and turn cross offshore and have nice light winds into the evening. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing large onshore messy conditions for both Saturday and Sunday should be given a miss.

West Coast

Lahinch is looking like the winds are going to be problematic with the winds on Saturday blowing straight up into the bay making for onshore conditions with 4-5ft waves blown over. Sunday sees the winds drop back a bit but remain onshore messy with again 4-5ft conditions and depending on how the winds are blowing it may have clean enough faces for those keen. Expect lots of duck diving but waves could still be surfable. Tides are high at 6am and pm Saturday and on Sunday after 6am and 6.30pm so allow at least 2 hours either side for safe entry and exit.

North West

Stgrandhill is maxed out on Friday which means that there will be a lot of water moving around. Winds are moderately strong on Friday into Saturday and southerly in direction meaning cross shore conditions and not dropping back until Sunday afternoon when the winds remain southerly but drop right back to less than 10mph. Waves on Saturday should be in the 3-4ft region and possibly bigger on sets with Sunday bringing slightly smaller but in or around the same size. In the Bundoran area, the EuroSurf competition is going to most likely be held at the Peak where a large tent and judging area has been set up. Tullan may be maxed out so options around would be a smaller 2ft Streedagh or a 3-4ft Rossnowlagh for Saturday and slightly smaller at each spot on Sunday with the winds blowing moderate to strong on Saturday from the south dropping back by lunchtime on Sunday.

North Coast

Friday in Portrush looks really nice with 3-4ft and possibly up to 6ft with the 15-16 second period forecast with cross offshore conditions for East Strand and Whiterocks. Expect some nice clips and shots from Andy of Troggs. Saturday however drops right back to 2-3ft at East Strand and possibly slightly bigger and Whiterocks with offshore winds and smaller again on Sunday with 1-2ft and offshore at East.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 19th and 20th of September

East Coast

Saturday on the east coast looks to start off with a 1ft wave that could possibly be a little bigger but the swell is dropping fast from the strong winds that have blown overnight. These winds blow moderate to strong southerly for the day on Saturday. By midday this has dropped back to below 1ft and then is flat by Sunday.

South Coast

Saturday in Tramore is showing 2ft conditions blown over by moderate onshore winds making for messy conditions. This continues into Sunday and has a little more westerly direction in it which doesn’t improve things making for cross onshore conditions in the 2ft range.

South West

Garretstown is looking to have messy conditions for Saturday with winds gusting up to 30mph with 3ft blown over conditions. Sunday looks to have much lighter winds which could make for better surfing conditions with 2ft waves and light breezes. It won’t be 100% clean but it could clean up a little. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing to be maxed out conditions on Saturday from the 11ft swell at an 11 second period making for big windy on shore waves. Sunday sees the winds back off quite a bit with the winds blowing light breezes onshore in the morning then going to light southerly around midday and then stronger by evening on Sunday.

West Coast

Saturday in Lahinch is looking like it is going to be messy onshore like a lot of places but Sunday looks like it could have some really nice conditions with light onshore winds in the morning turning to offshore later in the day with a good swell of 7-8ft @ 11 seconds. This swell has a touch of north in it so this will kill off the waves back to 3-4ft but they should be somewhat clean. Tides are middling between 2m and 3.4m so there should be very little difference between low and high meaning the tide should only be on the rocks for an hour or so on Sunday around 1pm so leave time either side for safe entry and exit.

North West

Strandhill like much of the west coast is a mess on Saturday with winds gusting up to 30mph onshore making it a day to skip but Sunday shows to have some larger conditions that are clean so you should be looking at spots that will kill some of the size and favour the wind direction like Streedagh or Enniscrone which should have 3ft conditions in Streedagh and bigger at 4-5ft in Enniscrone with light winds in both spots. In the Bundoran area Saturday is a write off and the winds don’t look to turn or drop until later in the day meaning westerly winds until around midday when they lighten and then the afternoon by the time things back off but even then it will be too big for Tullan and really only favour Rossnowlagh.

North Coast

Portrush has had their really god conditions on Friday with up to 6ft waves and offshore winds but Saturday and Sunday look to be a little messy with the winds with Saturday showing winds gusting cross shore for East Strand and cross offshore for Whiterocks with waves in the 4-5ft range but moderate to strong winds. Sunday sees the winds only drop by evening and until then its moderate to strong cross shore from the west but only a breeze by evening for those keen.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 12th and 13th of September

East Coast

Saturday on the east coast looks to have a small wind swell coming up the channel from southerly winds that have picked up overnight and this could bring 1-2ft conditions at best but these will be weak and may not bend into Wicklow with any power so expect small weak mushy waves with a moderate southerly wind. Sunday drops back to small to flat with light breezes blowing offshore.

South Coast

Tramore is looking like those southerly winds on Saturday are going to make for messy onshore conditions with 2ft blown over with Sunday then dropping back in the winds and leaving 1-2ft at best from a 6 second period which will really only favour foamies or lessons with small weak waves and light breezes.

South West

Saturday is showing onshore messy conditions for Garretstown with the winds blowing directly onshore all day gusting to over 30mph at times with 2-3ft blown over. Sunday looks to still be onshore but the winds will have dropped right back so it won’t be clean but it won’t be a mess either with 2-3ft longboard or foamie waves. Inch Beach in Kerry will be blown onshore for Saturday with 4-5ft blown over conditions from the direct onshore winds Saturday and Sunday could have some nicer conditions with the best winds first thing when the conditions should be 4-6ft with light winds.

West Coast

Lahinch is showing 4-6ft on Friday with light onshore winds but the waves on the beach are no bigger than 2-3ft with light to moderate onshore winds. The winds pick up considerably on Saturday and I would reckon that it will have 2ft blown onshore messy conditions with Sunday seeing the winds drop slightly in the morning but then pick up again and always stay onshore which will make for bumpy conditions all weekend. Tides are high at 6.30am and before 7pm Saturday and after 7am and 7.30pm Sunday so leave at least 2 hours either side for safe entry and exit.

North West

Saturday in Strandhill is big and onshore and the winds would probably favour the spots that are more northerly facing. Enniscrone should have 3-4ft conditions with cross offshore conditions but the winds are moderate to strong offshore. Sunday is a much tamer affair as the winds lighten off completely and turn more southerly making for light cross shore breezes and 2-3ft conditions for Strandhill. In the Bundoran area, Tullan will be a mess on Saturday as the swell is just a little on the too big side and the winds are going to make it additionally messy. There is too much west in the winds for Streedagh to offer shelter so its Rossnowlagh only for onshore white water. Sunday changes and with the light winds, Tullan should be 3-4ft and light cross shore breezes but with the onshore from the day before, don’t expect it to be super clean but it will be surfable. Rossnowlagh might hit 2ft in the forecasted swell.

North Coast

Portrush is seeing cross shore conditions on Friday that then turn offshore on Saturday morning with a nice 4ft at 12 seconds on Whiterocks that should bring nice 3ft conditions and bigger on sets with the nice 12 seconds period so get on it early as later in the day the winds start to turn more westerly which will then more likely favour the little bit of shelter at East Strand but the early worm gets the waves. Sunday sees light breezes but by then the swell has dropped to 1ft waves, possibly 2ft on sets so if you had a bigger board and were keen, it could have a wave for you.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 5th and 6th of September

East Coast

Saturday is mostly flat until later in the evening when the swell starts to build but this will only bring waves on the Sunday when it will hit 1-2ft by midday and possibly closer to 2ft by evening with moderate to strong southerly winds.

South Coast

Tramore is looking small to flat on Saturday with light onshore winds until the evening when the winds pick up in strength and this continues on into Sunday when the winds are gusting to over 30mph from the south leaving no spots for shelter and only a 5 second wind swell coming into the bay so a day to give it a miss.

South West

Garretstown starts off with light winds on Saturday morning but this quickly starts to turn onshore and the gusts then start fo pick up. Waves start in the 2ft range but with the onshore winds these will feel small. Sunday then goes fully onshore with the winds blowing from the south to make for messy conditions with the winds gusting to over 30mph onshore. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing 4ft conditions on Saturday but with the winds blowing from the south this will make for bumpy conditions with Sunday then turning into a blown out mess.

West Coast

Lahinch is very onshore Friday and then Saturday starts light onshore before going southerly which is cross shore but it is light. This means that while there will be light winds locally the waves will be coming in with a bump already on the wave. The winds turn offshore later in the day but not enough to clean up the waves. Waves should be in the 2ft range as the swell is coming in with a touch of north in it. Sunday then turns to be much stronger in the winds making for moderate cross shore gusting up to 30mph so make the most of Saturday. Tides are high just after midday Saturday so leave 90 minutes either side of high for safe entry and exit. On Sunday the tide is high around 1.30 but its a little higher so leave 2 hours either side of high of high.

North West

Strandhill is also very onshore Friday and then cross shore Saturday but the winds on Saturday are just breezes but that onshore from Friday will mean that the waves will be arriving with a bump on them already. The waves on Saturday should be 4-5ft region with Sunday dropping back to 1-2ft but with the winds having picked up to full cross shore messy so make the most of Saturday. In the Bundoran area it will be too big for Tullan Strand so Rossnowlagh will have the best conditions but it looks like the winds don’t drop until around lunchtime so it could still be quite bumpy and onshore but the waves should be in the 2-4ft range. It is slightly below what Streedagh needs to break anything over 1-2ft but the winds also won’t favour Streedagh until evening when the swell has dropped right back anyway so make the most of Rossy. Sunday in the Bundoran area is strong southerly winds making for messy Tullan 1ft blown cross shore conditions so again, make the most of the conditions on Saturday.

North Coast

East Strand is the spot for Saturday with the winds looking to blow from the south west making for cross offshore conditions for East but slight exposed for Whiterocks. West Strand should be onshore. Conditions on East Strand should be in the 3-4ft range with the best swell in the morning but the lightest waves in the evening so find the happy place. Sunday drops back to 1ft with moderate offshore winds from the south so again, Saturday is the best shout.
