Surf Report for the weekend of the 15th and 16th of November

East Coast

While the charts are showing waves for Wicklow for Friday and Saturday, these are driven off the back of the Easterly winds that are bashing the east coast at the moment and this is bringing nothing but messy onshore conditions so I would be avoiding going anywhere near the coast until the afternoon on Saturday when the winds drop back but even then it will only be 1-2ft messy onshore conditions so not really worth it. Sunday continues with more of the same and consistent onshore winds from the north east making for cold messy conditions.

South Coast

Saturday in Tramore is showing small 2ft conditions with moderate cross shore conditions making for small conditions that will be bumpy from that easterly wind. Sunday looks like a much better shout with offshore winds all day with 3ft conditions and bigger on sets with a better 10 second period on Sunday meaning a little bit more push in the waves.

South West

Conditions in Garretstown look to be a little messy on Saturday with the winds blowing directly from the East which is cross shore slightly bumpy conditions and waves in the 3ft range. It could get a little better in the afternoon when the winds turn a little more northerly. Sunday starts off with northerly winds and these should stay all day making for offshore conditions all day with it lightest in the morning with the gusts running to about 20mph so care should be taken to mind your position in the water to prevent getting blown further out than the breaking waves. The waves themselves should be in the 4ft range with a good 10 second period. Inch Beach in Kerry is looking small for Saturday with a direct south swell and only a small tertiary swell that has west in it. the winds are nicely direct offshore for Saturday but I would think that waves should only be in the 1-2ft range at best. Sunday has a better swell direction with a good 15 second period meaning long periods of no waves then with phantom 2-3ft sets every now and then with cross offshore winds.

West Coast

Saturday in Lahinch is looking very flat with barely any swell and offshore conditions. Sunday continues offshore with 2ft conditions. Be mindful that the period forecast is for nearly 15 seconds of a period meaning that it could appear flat for prolonged periods and then a set will come. Sets should be good longboard conditions with a nice push on them. Tides are high at 12 Saturday and closer to 1 Sunday but the tides are not massive high tides so you should be able to surf around 1 hour either side of high tides. Just stay out from 12 to 2 Sunday.

North West

Strandhill is showing small 1ft conditions for both Saturday and Sunday with moderate offshore winds with the winds much light on Sunday but still only 1-2ft conditions with the better conditions Sunday when the period builds to 14 seconds which will help it to bend in easier. In the Bundoran area it is showing small to flat conditions for Saturday with moderate to strong offshore winds at times with Sunday only bringing 1-2ft conditions on peak one of Tullan Strand with Rossnowlagh probably small to flat. Winds are light northerly for Sunday.

North Coast

For Portrush on Saturday it looks like it will struggle to get much swell with a cross swell coming in from the easterly winds that are blowing which may bring 2ft waves but the winds are also easterly leaving no shelter and cross shore messy conditions for Saturday. Sunday sees a very small weak 4 seconds period wind swell with onshore winds making for small messy onshore conditions so not great all round for the north facing spots.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 8th and 9th of November

The west coast is seeing a large period swell coming through that is going to make forecasting difficult as larger period swells are hard to predict as they move slower than normal period swells meaning that they could be delayed on arriving and when they arrive can bring much fatter waves rather than much bigger waves making for bigger duck dives and sometimes heavier dumpy waves as the larger amount of water in each wave. If in doubt, don’t go out!

East Coast

Surf on Saturday looks to be too small to bring any waves to the east coast with Sunday being just below the minimum so it could have a 1-2ft wave with moderate cross shore winds from the south but bare in mind that if the winds don’t blow then the swell might not make it up the channel as it is only a windswept 6-7 second period.

South Coast

Saturday looks small and onshore in Tramore with 2ft blown onshore waves with the winds up to nearly 20mph onshore. Sunday looks to start off quite strong but then the winds back off quite a lot around midday and into the afternoon. This will not bring clean waves as a few days of onshore conditions will leave plenty of bumps on the waves but it will make for some nice waves that will hold up a little better without the moderate onshore with waves up to 4ft but still with an 8 second period.

South West

It is looking onshore for Saturday in Garretstown but the real issue is that the waves are forecast to be over 8ft with a 16 second period making it for experienced surfers only. Sunday is showing something similar with 6ft waves and bigger on sets with a 14 second period with light onshore winds. Inch Beach in Kerry is looking like it is going to be maxed out so options are really only for the north side of the peninsula where it could still be large with the big period on the waves so check your spots and only surf in conditions that match your ability.

West Coast

Lahinch is also looking maxed out with 13ft 16 seconds making for massive waves on the beaches and the reefs so I would give it a miss for both Saturday and Sunday. Extreme should be taken in relation to the tides also as the tides are going to race in and out with it going from a 5m high to a 0.4m low.

North West

Strandhill is going to be maxed out on Saturday with Aughris even seeing larger conditions and Streedagh having larger dumpy sets. It could be an opportunity to check Mullaghmore Beach for waves as the sets could get in there and have smaller waves and cleaner conditions. Sunday could have some large sets still on Strandhill with waves still in the overhead range so only surf if you are comfortable in these condition. Another factor is the winds also pick up Sunday meaning that it will be quite blustery. Streedagh might still be an option but the wind direction is not great. In the Bundoran area Tullan will be maxed out all weekend with Rossnowlagh seeing head high sets on Saturday with large waves coming through on the 16 second period. The Waves will be fat and hard to get under so expect a hard slog and miles if you intend going out back. It might be easier to surf the inside on the higher tide for both Saturday and Sunday.

North Coast

Portrush is showing 3-4ft waves but I suspect these will be bigger with the 14 second period and the likes of East Strand and Whiterocks can hold much larger waves to the inside so getting out could be the challenge with large closing out waves. It may look class but could be a challenge to duck diving with the more voluminous waves. Winds are offshore Saturday and light enough with Sunday showing 2-3ft but again, I would expect this to be much bigger with much stronger winds gusting up to 30mph+ making it difficult enough to control you board. It looks like it cleans up later in the day when the winds drop back a little.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of November

East Coast

With the weather and winds that were blowing up the east coast on Friday there was a good chance for a wave on Friday with the forecast predicting 3-4ft for those free to partake. Saturday is looking like the forecast could bring 1-2ft conditions for Saturday morning for those keen as there will be some remnants from Friday’s swell but this is slightly less than what it usually takes to get going but it is backed by a 10 second period. the swell looks to drop out quite quickly so I would recommend getting on it early as it may fade. Sunday sees the swell drop below the required amount to bring waves with another bump then for Monday for anyone still keen. South westerly winds all weekend so this should have nice offshore conditions for Wicklow.

South Coast

The South westerly winds that are bringing the waves up the Irish Sea are also the winds that are going to make for onshore conditions in Tramore with 4-5ft conditions forecast but the onshore winds may make for smaller blown over conditions for both Saturday and Sunday with Sunday showing slightly smaller in the 2-3ft blown over conditions.

South West

Garretstown is showing that the conditions are going to bring 6-8ft plus conditions but the wind direction is going to mean onshore conditions making for messy waves due to the gusts that are coming through. Sunday sees slightly smaller in the 5-6ft range but the winds are still blowing 15-25mph onshore meaning messy white water conditions for the whole weekend. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing maxed out conditions all weekend with onshore winds so give it a miss.

West Coast

Lahinch was showing to have large white water conditions for Friday and this looks like it will continue through to Saturday and Sunday as the winds turn more westerly for both days with good strong onshore waves that will probably hit 5-6ft blown over on both days so this should be avoided as it will only be suitable for lessons in the white water. Tides are high at 1.30 Saturday and 2.30 Sunday so avoid going near the water 2 hours either side of high tide. With the clocks having gone back this would leave no time after high for getting back in.

North West

Strandhill will probably be maxed out at the size forecast with the winds blowing moderate to strong cross onshore for both days with the waves predicted to be well overhead but with the winds they may appear smaller but the 12 second period means good strong power in the waves. One could check Aughris as there may be shelter in the corner from the south and south west winds. Streedagh may be also be an option but check the winds as it really needs more east in the winds for better conditions so it will be cross shore at best. Bundoran will be maxed out for Tullan for the weekend with the only option showing as an onshore Rossnowlagh for those that are keen but again I would not be expecting to make it out the back with the winds and swell size forecast.

North Coast

Conditions around Portrush could be nice with the winds improving for East Strand with it starting out to be westerly but this looks to move more southerly by the afternoon on Saturday with 2-3ft conditions in the morning building to 4ft+ by late afternoon. Sunday at East Strand continues to be 3-4ft and building up to 4ft plus by midday with the winds starting south westerly and moving to south by evening so not a bad day of surf for Sunday in the Port.

Surf Report for the October Bank Holiday

East Coast

Saturday on the East Coast should have some waves that are coming in from the north which will work at the north end of the beach in Wicklow with the winds blowing cross shore from the north north westerly winds that will bring colder conditions with the better conditions earlier in the morning when the swell is at its largest but this will still only bring 2ft conditions with possibly better on sets. Sunday sees that swell drop back a little to a poorer north swell with a much weaker 6 second period which will only make for 1ft waves with cold northerly winds turning offshore later in the day but not good enough as the waves will be too small with Monday only seeing small to flat conditions.

South Coast

Tramore looks to have clean conditions for Friday evening when it should be 2-3ft before the swell drops back to become small to flat for Saturday with a small wind swell pulse coming through on Sunday afternoon until dark when there is another chance at some 2ft conditions but with cross shore winds from the west north westerly. Monday turns to 1ft waves with cross shore winds dropping back to breezes by evening.

South West

Conditions around Garretstown are showing 1-2ft for Saturday with bigger for Sunday but this is only a 6 second period so expect 2-3ft weaker waves with onshore conditions with a little better for Monday in terms of swell but the winds are still onshore making for messy conditions. Inch Beach in Kerry will see the primary swell coming from the north which always struggles to get in so while the charts are showing 3-4ft, this will be more likely 1ft with cold northerly winds turning westerly onshore into Sunday. The swell is still from the north Sunday and it’s a small period swell meaning that it won’t bend well to get into Inch so expect 1-2ft at best weak blown onshore waves with Monday still bringing northerly waves but this comes up to 11 seconds meaning that it could bring 2-3ft conditions and lighter onshore winds but still messy from the previous days onshore winds.

West Coast

Lahinch is showing good waves but this is unlikely given the north in the swell meaning that it will probably only be small to flat 1ft at best conditions on Saturday with north westerly winds making for cold cross shore bumps on the small waves. Sunday sees this continue with a slight touch more west on the direction making for 2-3ft conditions but by Sunday the winds have turning westerly making for onshore messy conditions, good for lessons or those keen for some white water waves. Monday afternoon looks to see the winds drop back a bit but the winds that have been around for the previous days will see bumpy faces on the waves with 2-3ft waves at best. Tides are high at 8am Saturday, 7.30am Sunday (clocks change!) and 8am Monday so leave at least 2 hours after high or when it has dropped off the rocks before entering the water.

North West

Strandhill will see plenty of swell getting into the bay from the north west swell direction but the winds are also north westerly making for nowhere along that coast for shelter meaning messy onshore conditions Saturday that then turn westerly Sunday meaning the 3-4ft conditions will still be onshore and messy and on into Monday when the north westerly direction winds return with 5-6ft blown over conditions. For those keen, it would be Streedagh but this will be onshore all weekend and if you are that keen, I would just go to Rossnowlagh where it will be cross shore but with the shape of the bay, it holds onshore a little better. Tullan will not be an option for the weekend with the swells and wind directions but Rossnowlagh will be the only safe onshore option.

North Coast

Unfortunately the north winds that are blighting most spots around the country are also going to ruin things in Portrush for the weekend with Saturday seeing 6-7ft conditions on the charts but these will probably show as 3-4ft blown onshore with the winds set to hit 35mph onshore. Sunday sees the winds swing westerly making West Strand a mess with cross shore conditions for East Strand and Whiterocks making it messy 2-3ft weak wind swell conditions before Monday returns to northerly winds leaving no shelter for any spots. For those who are super keen there may be a little shelter from the northerly winds at the north end of West Strand at Babushka where the pier could offer a small window of shelter but this is limited and swell may not make it around but exercise care as there could be rips where the water needs to exit the beach.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 18th and 19th of October

East Coast

It looks like there could be waves for the weekend on the east coast but the wind direction is not great. Saturday is showing 2ft waves but the period is between 4 and 6 seconds as the winds are blowing from the south east making for short period onshore waves which will be very weak. Sunday looks to have a better run of waves with the period increasing to 8 seconds meaning that it is more of a ground swell with waves up to 3-4ft in the morning but this looks to fade fairly fast. The winds are still not coming from a great angle for Sunday morning with the south east in the direction meaning onshore conditions until around lunch time when it looks to go southerly which may make for slightly better conditions.

South Coast

On both Saturday and Sunday Tramore will be onshore with the winds up to 25mph plus making for messy weak onshore conditions. Waves should be 2-3ft Saturday and much bigger on Sunday up to 3-5ft but these will be blown over from the onshores.

South West

Garretstown is looking onshore for both days with the waves in the 2-3ft range with Sunday showing more like 3-5ft with onshore winds so this will make for messy conditions on both days. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing moderate to strong offshore conditions on Saturday but this should be less with the land drag with waves in the 3-4ft range with Sunday showing southerly winds and waves in the 4-6ft range making for cross shore bumpy conditions.

West Coast

Saturday in Lahinch is looking to blow cross offshore all day with winds showing to gust up to 25mph plus but this should be less with the land drag but waves will only be in the 1-2ft range for Saturday with Sunday showing bigger 3ft conditions with bigger waves on sets with winds blowing from the south making for cross shore conditions with the tides high at 4pm Saturday and closer to 5pm Sunday but the tides are bigger so leave the full two hours before to exit the water safely.

North West

Strandhill is looking to show no swell for Saturday and only a small 1ft for Sunday with offshore winds on both days. In the Bundoran area it is looking like Tullan only weekend with 1ft waves on Saturday with moderate offshore winds making for super clean tiny waves with Sunday having similar but only slightly bigger at 1-1.5ft with lighter offshore winds.

North Coast

Portrush is also looking small to flat for this weekend with only a small less than 0.5ft swell on Saturday with moderate to strong offshore winds from the south east making for clean but small conditions. Sunday has the primary swell blowing waves out to sea making for small to flat conditions again.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 11th and 12th of October

East Coast

Things are looking very flat on the east coast for the weekend with no sign of any incoming swell.

South Coast

Tramore is also looking small to flat for the weekend with very light winds all weekend.

South West

Conditions in Garretstown do not look like they will break the 1ft mark on Saturday with Sunday showing very little by way of swell also with 1ft probably being the peak of it with light offshore winds. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing a north west swell which always struggles to get into the bay so I would expect 2ft waves at a push with light offshore winds all day. Sunday should see similar to Saturday but this time from a south westerly swell but with a smaller 9 second period so with less push than Saturday.

West Coast

Saturday shows a north westerly swell for Lahinch which will be dropped in size as it bends around the corner which means that conditions will probably only be 1-2ft at best with very light breezes with the tide high first thing at 8.30am so out of the water until at least 10.30 but then good to go all day thereafter. On Sunday the swell is southerly but its small and will probably only go from 1ft with the possibility of 2ft but only on the tides with it good to get in the water after 11 or so.

North West

In Strandhill the conditions should be 3-4ft with the winds light offshore all day with it bigger in the morning than afternoon so best to get on it early with Sunday showing to have much smaller conditions as it drops back to 1-2ft at best with a much weaker swell. In the Bundoran area Saturday should be the better day with 3-4ft on Tullan Strand and 2ft for Rossnowlagh for the competition but this will be a little slower as the swell has to bend so really only for the longboards out there with winds so light they’re barely breezes. Sunday drops right back so this should only have 1-2ft for Tullan and probably flat for Rossy with offshore winds all day for both spots.

North Coast

Portrush had some chunky conditions on Friday but this looks to drop back a good bit for Saturday with 3ft conditions in the morning with a nice 11 second period and light offshore winds but this will drop back to 2ft by evening and further to 1-2ft by Sunday and 1ft by Sunday evening with offshore breezes still.

Surf Report for the 4th and 5th of October

With Storm Amy passing overhead on Friday evening into Saturday and Sunday for some spots, I can only recommend that you take extreme caution if considering going near the water and while I recommend that you don’t as the winds will be very strong from the west, the following surf report will be an advice on the possible conditions and not form any encouragement to go near or into the water. There are plenty more waves in the sea and there will always be more weekends to surf if you sit this one out. I can only recommend that you sit it out and watch some surf movies instead.

East Coast

Waves in Wicklow will be 1-2ft on the East coast as the winds will be blowing very strong offshore making the likelihood for waves coming into Wicklow as small on Saturday. Sunday sees the swell drop back down to small to flat with winds still moderately strong offshore.

South Coast

Waves on the south coast on Saturday should be in the region of 5ft plus but the winds will be very strong from the west making it very dangerous to enter the water on the south coast as there will be a lot of water moving around. Sunday sees the winds drop back but only slightly to 20mph plus from the west with waves in the 2-3ft range.

South West

Saturday in Garretstown is a no go zone. Sunday looks to have 4ft blown onshore conditions so again nothing really for improvers. Inch Beach in Kerry is a no go zone on Saturday into Sunday with strong onshore winds Saturday and moderate onshore winds Sunday leaving nothing for improvers but white water mess on Sunday. Sit it out.

West Coast

Lahinch is a no go zone Saturday with the winds forecast to hit above 55mph with the large swell to continue into Sunday and the winds not to drop below 20mph so I’d give it a miss.

North West

Saturday on the northwest is still feeling a lot of the hangover from Amy’s passing meaning that there will be no shelter for any of the spots. Sunday also has strong westerly winds meaning another day to give it a miss. Even the spots that would normally offer shelter like Aughris or Streedagh will be blown out. The Bundoran area will have nothing to offer for improvers either.

North Coast

Portrush does not escape the winds or swell and is a no go for Saturday with the winds exceeding 40mph onshore on the gusts for all three spots as there is a touch of north in the winds. Sunday has the same direction winds and similar strength as it gets the remnants of the storm as it passes over Portrush last meaning no surf until the storm clears.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 27th and 28th of September

East Coast

Saturday on the east coast is showing to have some 1-2ft conditions with moderate southerly winds. Until morning when the winds will then start to back off and turn offshore. The swell will only be large enough for waves first thing in the morning and then it will only be really enough for foamies or lessons. Sunday sees the conditions drop back to small to flat with light winds.

South Coast

It is looking onshore first thing on Saturday morning but this winds stops blowing by 9am and then turns cross offshore as the strength in the wind drops right back. This means 2ft offshore conditions first thing dropping back to 1-2ft for the rest of the day. Sunday won’t exceed the 1-2ft range with more 1 than 2ft conditions with very light breezes.

South West

The winds on the south west look to turn cross offshore earlier which should see some nice 3-4ft conditions around Garretstown with a nice punchy 10 second period meaning good short board conditions with light variable direction winds but less than 10mph so nothing too troublesome for the waves. Sunday drops back to 2-3ft with a 9 second period so getting more into the bigger boards territory but still surfable with very light breezes. Inch Beach in Kerry is showing light to moderate onshore conditions for Saturday with the winds blowing directly onto the beach so no opportunity for shelter with the waves in the 4-5ft range with bigger on sets but biggest in the morning. Sunday sees the winds drop back a little to 10-15mph onshore so still enough or a bump on the wave with 3-4ft waves.

West Coast

Lahinch shows light onshore conditions for first thing Saturday morning but not too strong with 3-4ft conditions. The winds will be a little gusty throughout the day so it won’t be perfect surfing conditions but still good for practice with a really good push to the waves in the afternoon with a 12-13 second period with winds running between 10-15mph onshore. Sunday has the winds drop right back to 5-10mph onshore with the waves looking more like 2-3ft with the possibility of bigger on sets. Tides are high at 9am Saturday closer to 10 Sunday and with 3.8m tides you need to leave up to 2 hours either side for safe access and exit.

North West

Strandhill is showing light onshore winds for the day but these never look to get above the 10mph limit for strength. Conditions should have nice 4-5ft waves all day with a nice punchy 13 second period meaning that some of the sets could get up to 6ft. Sunday drops back to 2-3ft with even lighter onshore winds. In the Bundoran area it is showing some good Tullan Strand waves with 4-5ft conditions along the beach so no with light to moderate onshore conditions but still some good waves coming through. Rossnowlagh should have good 3ft waves for the day with the winds having less effect on the waves there. Sunday in Bundoran looks similar but with a smaller wave in the 2-3ft range with light onshore winds for the day and probably 1-2ft for Rossnowlagh.

North Coast

East Strnad in the Portrush will offer a little shelter from the west wind that is forecast for Saturday but it is light enough but the winds from the night before will mean that the wave may have a little bump to it but it should still be plenty surfable with 2-3ft conditions and less than 10mph winds. Sunday shows the winds turning southerly making for better offshore conditions with East Strand and Whiterocks having offshore conditions with 2ft waves for East and possibly bigger on sets at Whiterocks with the greater exposure to the northwest.

Surf Report for the weekend of the 20th and 21st of September

East Coast

Conditions around Wicklow look to be flat all day Saturday with the first sign of a wave coming on Sunday morning with a northerly swell which should bring waves to the north end of the beach but the winds are also moderate to strong from the north with very little shelter but can still offer good conditions. Both period and size are best early in the morning.

South Coast

Tramore is looking to have nice waves on Friday evening and into the most of the day on Saturday when the conditions then look to drop back. Friday evening could offer 3ft plus conditions with Saturday showing 2-3ft depending on tides and location with Sunday dropping back to small to flat. Winds are northerly offshore all day Saturday and light enough.

South West

Garretstown will have nice conditions on Friday evening with 4-5ft conditions with very light breezes with this continuing into Saturday with 3ft plus first thing dropping back to 2ft plus by mid morning but always with light offshore breezes before Sunday drops right off. Inch Beach in Kerry looks to have 3-4ft conditions with winds moderate from the north making for bumpy conditions and the strength of the wind will be gusty at times. Sunday sees the winds stay northerly making for cross shore bumpy conditions with fairly flat waves for the beach.

West Coast

Nice conditions are on offer for Lahinch on Saturday morning with the waves in the 2-3ft range with a small 9 second period and light winds from the south but these are less than 10mph so will have very little effect on the waves. by Saturday afternoon the winds have picked up and this will bring messy conditions so get on it early. Tides are not high until 5pm so the winds should allow you to surf for most of the day until 3pm when the tide and the winds get too high. Sunday sees those northerly winds continue from Saturday evening and this will make for messy cross shore conditions for Lahinch with the main swell on offer being a northerly wind swell.

North West

Strandhill is looking cross onshore all day Saturday with light winds but stronger gusts making for small 2-3ft conditions in the morning with a the swell building in the afternoon but this coincides with the winds picking up and turning northerly making for cold messy conditions gusting to moderate to strong by evening. Sunday sees a northerly swell with northerly winds making for messy cross shore conditions and not really offering shelter anywhere. In the Bundoran area it is looking like 2ft conditions in the morning with light winds first thing but this very quickly turns to northerly winds picking up in strength throughout the day and making for messy conditions at all spots. Sunday sees the northerly conditions continue with messy waves but it drops back to 1-2ft.

North Coast

Saturday in Portrush is looking like it will be a max of 1-2ft with light offshore winds in the morning before the winds pick up and then Sunday sees the winds go moderate to strong onshore for the whole day making for even messier conditions.

Surf Improvers

Surf Report for the weekend of the 12th of September

East Coast

Saturday is looking like the waves are going to be small in Wicklow with only 1ft conditions leaving very little for improvers. Sunday looks to jump and bring waves but not until the afternoon wen the swell kicks in so don’t go down to Wicklow too early as the afternoon will have the better conditions with the winds also turning more westerly making for cross offshore conditions. Winds are moderate to strong from the south west. The swell is still only 6-7 seconds meaning 2-3ft conditions at best.

South Coast

The south westerly winds on both Saturday and Sunday will make for messy onshore conditions for Tramore all weekend with no shelter to be had. Waves should be 2ft blown over Saturday and 3-4ft blown over Sunday.

South West

Garretstown is also looking onshore all weekend making for messy waves on both days with Sunday being a write off as the swells are larger and stronger onshore. Saturday should have 2-3ft messy blown onshore waves with Sunday showing 3-4ft blown onshore but the winds are much stronger. Inch Beach in Kerry is a mess both Saturday and Sunday and will only offer waves in the shallows for lessons otherwise it will be a no go.

West Coast

Lahinch is moderate to strong onshore Saturday with waves showing 8ft plus on the forecast but this will be much smaller in reality in that the winds will blow over any larger waves and reduce down the size so it could look like 3-4ft onshore but messy and not really worth the effort. Sunday shows a break in the morning where it looks offshore but this probably won’t happen as the winds are more likely to stay onshore and remain messy through into Sunday with winds hitting up to 40mph with waves on Sunday hitting 2-3ft blown onshore but growing bigger throughout the day so not really a day for surfing. Tides are high at 10am Saturday and closer to 11 Sunday so leave 2 hours either side before thinking of going near the water.

North West

Strandhill is onshore today (Friday) and looks to turn southerly in the morning but very quickly turn onshore again meaning 4-5ft blown onshore waves making for messy conditions. Sunday looks to turn offshore but the winds are moderate to strong offshore with 2-3ft waves but care should be exercised as the winds look to be gusting to up to 50mph making it even hard to walk with your board. In the Bundoran area Saturday looks onshore for the day with the winds up to 25mph onshore all day making for messy conditions with waves in the 2-3ft range for both Tullan and Rossnowlagh with Sunday bringing offshore conditions but nearly too strong offshore for Tullan making for cross offshore conditions blowing up the beach from the cliff with the waves in the 2-3ft range with Rossnowlagh offering 2ft conditions blowing moderate offshore up to 40mph.

North Coast

Portrush is showing 2-3ft conditions for East Strand and Whiterocks with the possibility of bigger sets with the good 11 second period and winds are offshore all day until the mid afternoon when it turns onshore so the advise would be to get on it early. Sunday looks offshore again but with the onshore over night I would expect the waves to have a messy bump on them with the winds looking to build in strength offshore so much that it actually looks to turn to an offshore wind swell making the incoming swell a challenge to catch with winds gusting up to 50mph making it hard to control boards in the water or on land. The swell looks to be best in the morning before the winds mess it up but Saturday early is the better shout.
